DONEGAL man Gary McElhinney was celebrating victory in the 2020 Rally Mallorca this weekend.

The Rally Clásico Isla de Mallorca-Puerto Portals came to an end on Friday, a day earlier than planned due to the escalation of the spread of Covid-19.

McElhinney was co-driver for British driver Seb Pérez in a 1975 Porsche 911 Carrera.

Pérez and McElhinney led from start to finish and had 53.6 seconds to spare on their nearest challengers when a halt was called after the second day of action and eight stages.

Laghey man McElhinney is a well-traveled navigator and this represented his latest triumph.

In second spot was German duo Stefan Oberdörster and Beate Oberdörster.

Another German pair, Heiko Becker-Rohbach and Meik Hochweller were in third.
