Letterkenny man Peter McGlynn knows what it’s like to hit the wall.
Well, the chances are when you do a marathon almost every other week in recent years you will find yourself up against it now and again.
Yesterday saw Bomany man Peter complete his 200th marathon when he crossed the line in the Ballina Marathon in Mayo.
Not bad for a man who has undergone not one but two quadruple heart bypasses in recent years.
Along with the gritters and the delivery trucks, McGlynn is part of the road network in and around Letterkenny and out to Glenswilly.
He’s easy to spot – usually wearing shorts, a t-shirt and the occasional pair of gloves when motorists are scraping the frost off their windscreens before work.
Over the years Peter has helped hundreds of novice and experienced runners with helpful advice.
Always supported by his wife Bernadette and family, he regularly completes back-to-back marathons.
Peter’s friends in the marathon world surprised him with a cake to mark his milestone marathon yesterday.
Congrats Peter. Most of us who have ever dreamed of doing a marathon are about 199 behind you!
