‘We can do this’ – Doherty determined after mammoth talks with Green Party

Donegal Deputy Pearse Doherty remains determined that the Sinn Féin party can deliver a ‘government for change’ in the new Dáil.

The comments came after a mammoth seven hour meeting with the Green Party on detailed policy discussions yesterday.

Sinn Féin will be meeting the Social Democrats and others for further discussions later this week.

“It is time to put ordinary voices back into power,” said Doherty during an impassioned speech outside a Sinn Féin public meeting at Liberty Hall in Dublin last night.

The building had reached full capacity, but Doherty addressed the remaining crowd outside and stressed his intentions to “give voice to change”.

Doherty said a full Sinn Féin delegation had met with the Green Party for seven and a half hours on Tuesday to discuss issues including; “housing, health, climate change, communities, Irish unity/Brexit/constitutional change, childcare/education, giving workers and families a break and finance.”

“These have been very constructive meetings and we have agreed to exchange papers in the coming days,” Deputy Doherty said.

“Sinn Féin is determined to deliver a Government for Change and we will meet again with the Green Party immediately after the weekend and in advance of the next sitting of the Dáil on 5th March.

“We will continue our detailed policy discussions this week, with engagements with the Social Democrats and Independents to follow.”
