Donegal motorists will be in for a surprise this Easter when a bright blue ‘velomobile’ hits the roads on a charity challenge.
The tiny vehicle is a hybrid human-powered / electric pedal bike.
And biker Duane Phillips is planning to travel in it all the way from Mizen to Malin Head in a 586 km challenge.
Philips is setting out to be the first person to attempt this Cork-Donegal journey in a velomobile. It’s all for a good cause too, as he’ll be fundraising to raise money for the NCBI to help people with sight loss.
Philips, who is originally from Manchester and lives in Kilkenny, decided to take on the task for his friend Dave, who suffered from sight loss and received great support from the NCBI.
Philips is planning to attempt the entire journey in 24 hours, all going well. He will set out on 11th April 2020 and hope to reach Donegal in the shortest time possible.
He is well-used to unusual adventures, having scooted the entire Wild Atlantic Way in a scooter in recent years.
Philips has set up a charity page on irishvelomobiles.com/ncbi and is accepting donations on give.everydayhero.com/ie/mizen-to-malin-velomobile-challenge
