The Lifford community is celebrating a colourful new feature in the town following the unveiling of a creative street map.
The new map will be a useful tool for visitors to find local businesses, historical buildings and cultural highlights of Donegal’s capital town.
The map was created with the support of Lifford Credit Union.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Lifford Credit Union have sponsored, after discussions with local Tidy Towns Committees in the East Donegal region where they have branches, several projects in each area.
One such project is a “Street Map” of Lifford which was designed in consultation with members of Lifford Tidy Towns Committee.
Illustrator Ruth Graham designed the map which was officially unveiled at an event on Friday morning.
Members of Lifford Credit Union, local community organisations and local schools were in attendance.
Speaking at the event, Dolores O’Kelly of Lifford Tidy Towns expressed the committee’s thanks to Lifford Credit Union and all the businesses of the town for their financial support over the years.
Ms O’Kelly thanked Donegal County Council, local councillors and the Development Fund Initiative, TUS & DSP participants, whose work keeps the town clean and well maintained.
Ms O’Kelly also thanked Lifford/Clonleigh Resource Centre, where the DSP supervisor is based, and the Courthouse and the parish which provided bases for Tidy Towns participants for the past 14 years.
The late Danny Mc Gavigan and his contribution to the Tidy Towns committee was fondly remembered at the event.
Ms O’Kelly thanked her two Tidy Towns colleagues – Tina McBrearty and Charlie McCauley – and made the call for more volunteers to get involved.
“We need new members, it is not an onerous business. Please give it some thought,” Ms O’Kelly said.
