A Letterkenny community group are to seek funding to enhance their area during clean-ups.
The Long Lane Area Residents Committee will be seeking funding this year through the Development Funding Initiative.
The group hope ay funding will help them to establish a community garden shed that will enhance the participation of residents in their community clean ups and green area development of the Long Lane.
Chairperson, Finn O Donnell said “We aim to have our very own garden shed equipped with garden equipment for the whole of Long Lane to benefit from it.
“People in the area who may need a lawn mower, a power washer, strimmer etc, can have the use of the community shed.
“We hope to have the involvement from young people to the elderly planting flowers in their estates, placing hanging baskets on lampposts up and down Long Lane and participating in making our green areas a better-looking place for the whole of the community”.
Mr O Donnell pressed the importance of bringing the residents of Long Lane together.
“We have seen the same old nonsense from a small group of people who in my opinion, simple do not want the Long Lane to get any better. We are all determined to improve the area, the committee is here, the association is here, the will is there so we aren’t going anywhere.
“What we need now is for all the residents of Long Lane to come together and do their part in making our community the place we all know it is. Our core principle as a committee social inclusion and we that it is through social inclusion we can achieve a more vibrant, cleaner, safer and happier Long Lane.”
The Committee has already received support from local community groups and local councillors in the area and have stated that they are confident the funding be awarded.
