A Milford school has pulled out all the stops to make an outstanding donation to the Donegal Young Carers Project.
Jimmy Mc Kinney, from Donegal Youth Services paid tribute to members of Mulroy College’s Young Social Innovators group.
The students held several fundraisers and also sold wristbands to raise awareness for the young carers in our community. In total, they raised over €490 from their award winning project “Young Carers, who Cares?”
The Group won first place in their category at the Young Social Innovators
National Awards in Croke Park in 2019.
The group have both helped raise awareness about Young Carers in our communities, as well as help to raise awareness of the Donegal Young Carers project throughout Donegal.
The amazing fundraising will help fund the Young Carers project to run activity days for the existing young carers group to give the young people a well-deserved break from their caring roles.

The Young Carers project exists to support young people who take on extra caring responsibilities at home, which often impacts other areas of their lives, like school work, time spent with friends, extra-curricular activities and hobbies.
Contributing to household chores and family responsibilities is a common part of life in a home. Young people who are caring for a relative often take on more of these responsibilities and tasks. This can affect their well-being and therefore they may need some support.
What is a Young Carer?
A Young Carer is a child or young person under the age of 24, whose life is affected by providing significant care, assistance, or support to a relative at home.
The Young Carers’ Project recognises the vital role that young people undertake on a daily basis providing care for someone else. Our project has been set up to support young people in this situation.
