Speaking after today’s Crana College march in Buncrana, local Senator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has slammed the outgoing government for failing to deliver on the long awaited three school campus in the town.
Mac Lochlainn said the outgoing government and the Department of Education and Skills refused to prioritise the three school campus project for Buncrana.
“They allowed the negotiations for the campus site to drift on and on for years until the site was sold to a third party.
“Year after year we were told by successive Ministers for Education including Joe McHugh that the new campus would be delivered.
“It is now thirteen years since the project was first mooted and still the government has failed to deliver a site for the project
“I want to commend the efforts of Crana College and local parents for ramping up their campaign to secure a new campus for the school.
“The anger amongst the community is deep and they feel really let down.
“Throughout my time as local Councillor and an Oireachtas member I have sought to work with Ministers to progress this project and each and every time government has been found wanting.
“The people of Buncrana and South Inishowen are sick and tired of being treated as second-class citizens by government. Our children and our town deserve better,” he said.
Crana College says they were absolutely delighted with the response at the march today.
“We had up to 1,000 people attend.
“We are absolutely delighted with the response,” they said.
