A popular children’s playground in Gweedore has been temporarily closed over health and safety fears.
St. Mary’s Close in Bunbeg was recently closed to the public following a routine inspection.
The council-owned community playground is popular with local families as it located across the road to the local creche.
However, with some play equipment in need of repair work, the council made the decision to close the area. It is understood that a maintenance contractor will be tasked with carrying out the necessary repairs.
“This is a big playground that the public uses regularly,” said local Cllr Michael Cholm Mac Giolla Easbuig.
“We have been working on it the last couple of years to put in soft play and equipment for people of all abilities. More work needs to be done and I have requested that we look for a new fence.
“The main thing is that the creche uses it.”
Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig said it is hoped that the playground can be repaired and reopened again by the end of next week. He commended the council on their swift action on the issue.
