PAURIC Ryan believes that St Eunan’s underage successes are helping lay the foundations for future senior championship tilts.
Ryan guided St Eunan’s to glory in Sunday’s U21 final as the Cathedral Town men defeated Naomh Conaill 2-9 to 1-2 in Convoy.
St Eunan’s haven’t won the senior crown since 2014, but were within inches of Naomh Conaill, the eventual champions and Ulster finalists, in a semi-final this year. Many of Sunday’s participants have already made their senior breakthroughs.
“It’s very important,” Ryan told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub of Sunday’s win.
“I love the under-21s. They’re adult males and it’s a great indicator of what’s coming through. They’re the future of the senior team.”
Niall O’Donnell and Padraig McGettigan netted the goals as St Eunan’s took the prize in torrid conditions.
Ryan said: “We were excellent. These guys are something else.
“A lot of them are very comfortable on the ball and they made the right choices.”
