A long-term solution to ensure the survival of the vital supports and services provided by Parentstop, must be found by the government as a matter of urgency, according to Fianna Fáil TD for Donegal, Charlie McConalogue.
Speaking ahead of a planned meeting tomorrow, the Donegal TD said it is vital that funding can be found as a matter of urgency to ensure the continuation of the free and confidential support service for parents.
He said: “Parentstop has offices in Letterkenny, Carndonagh, Downings and Donegal Town and has supported hundreds of families across the county.
“There was a great deal of shock when they announced that they will have to close at the end of the year due to lack of funding and it is important that a solution can be found to prevent this happening”.
The Fianna Fáil TD said there is a unanimous agreement across Donegal on the importance of the service and insisted the government must step up to the plate now and help save it.
H said: “I know there is an important meeting planned tomorrow and that will give the government the perfect opportunity to show its real commitment to saving Parentstop and keeping it operational in Donegal.
“At this stage, there is no time for more lip-service from the government. This meeting will provide them with a perfect opportunity to show they are behind the service.
“They need to find the relatively small amount of funding necessary to keep Parentstop going, not just in the short-term, but as an ongoing resource for the county.”
