Main Street Letterkenny was alive with festive fun on Friday night for the official switching-on of the Christmas lights.
The popular event attracted large crowds to the Market Square for special celebrations, music and merriment. Santa Claus himself came all the way from the North Pole to see what was going on!
MC Keith Fletcher kept everyone in good cheer until the big moment.
Shannon Sibbald, the lucky winner of the local school art competition turned on the lights with a helping hand from Letterkenny Chamber President Leonard Watson. The crowd gazed up in amazement when the overhead blue twinkling lights came on – and then there was snow!
The Christmas Lights Switch-On not only marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season in the heart of Letterkenny, but it celebrates the importance of shopping local, as it brings the community together.
Local dancers from Pinehill Studios, the Letterkenny Accordion Band and singer David James all came out to entertain the crowds. Meanwhile, businesses on the Main Street treated families to mince pies, warm drinks and surprises.
The event was hailed as another big success for the Letterkenny Chamber.
