Minister for Education and Skills Joe McHugh has said new investment in Buncrana library will be a huge benefit to the community.
“The funding for a new, interactive Magic Table in Buncrana library is a really impressive idea,” Minister McHugh said.
“Funding of more than €6,300 has been provided for the innovative piece of kit and it is a quality investment.
“The Magic Table helps people with autism and dementia and can be used by their carers as well, using light games projected down on to the table.
“It can help people with social, physical, cognitive functions.”
The Tovertafel – meaning magic table – is a Dutch creation, with the projector sending light animation onto a table.
People interact with their hands or a tool to react with censors and engage with a game.
Minister McHugh said: “This innovative equipment can help people with their memory and it is also a valuable educational tool for people with autism.
“I’d really like to credit Minister for Community and Rural Development Michael Ring for promoting this idea and backing it with investment in library services.”
