There were smiles aplenty in Loreto Letterkenny today as students and staff enjoyed a very successful Random Act of Kindness day.
The thoughtful initiative brought the school community together to be kind to each other and to make an effort to brighten up someone’s day. With free lollipops, lunch vouchers and treats for the teachers, it was a very good school day at Loreto!
Student Orla McDaid writes this recap of the project:
On Wednesday the 13th of November Loreto Letterkenny celebrated their very own Random Act of Kindness day.
This was carried out by members of our school bank team in conjunction with 6th year wellbeing class Eithne under the direction of teacher Ms. Mairead Boyle.
To begin the day teachers were treated to a hot cup of tea and a few biscuits to get them ready for the day ahead. We then had an intercom announcement to inform students about this random act of kindness day. There were also posters placed around the school to get the school community in the spirit of kindness.
In the morning each student was welcomed to their classroom with a positive uplifting message on the board that was sure to make them smile.
After the teachers enjoyed their tea we couldn’t forget the students. Very kindly sponsored by Bank of Ireland Letterkenny, each student received a lollipop and pen to give them a boost for this day of kindness.
There was also music in the school lobby at lunchtime as an added treat for the day, lifting everyone’s mood. Twenty students were very lucky to have received a free lunch voucher for the school canteen as a random act of kindness.
We encouraged students to get involved by carrying out simple yet thoughtful acts and gestures such as holding the door open, letting someone go in front of you in the canteen line or even a simple hello on the corridor.
We want to give a massive thanks to Jimmy Stafford, BOI Branch Manager and Claire Mc Rory, Youth Officer for sponsoring, and helping out at this great event and for being in attendance this morning along with Sr. Ger Mullen.
Following this day we hope that students and teachers will strive to be their kindest self and maybe you too can do something kind today!
