Minister for Education Joe McHugh is being asked to adopt a ‘hands-on approach’ to the extension of the Rosses Community School in Dungloe
Leas-Cheann Comhairle Pat the Cope is calling on the Minister to inject fresh impetus into progressing the need for an extension to RSC, which is in need of space incorporating Special Needs Accommodation.
The Department of Education has sanctioned funding for the extension and a design team has almost been completed.
With Minister Joe McHugh set to visit RSC, he is now being asked to facilitate the fast tracking of the appointment of the design team.
Deputy Gallagher said: “The extension at Rosses Community School when completed, will be a considerable benefit to the school catchment area. But, like so many projects at present they are completely bogged down in bureaucracy within the Department and end up waiting for month upon months before final absolute approval is given to the projects to proceed to the appointment of a contractor.
“In addition to this extension which has been approved, a further extension will be required at a very early date and I am calling on the Minister to ensure that this can be incorporated with these proposed works.
“The Minister needs to adopt a hands-on approach to this project and guarantee the delivery of this extension for the school,” concluded Pat the Cope.
