Martin Regan says Naomh Conaill’s win over Gaoth Dobhair in tonight’s second replay of the Donegal SFC final is up there with the club’s greatest hours.
John O’Malley kicked a dramatic point to tip the scales in Naomh Conaill’s favour tonight in Ballybofey.
“We’re over the moon,” Regan told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub after the 0-8 to 0-7 win.
“We have worked hard for the last three years for that title. We’ll enjoy this one after the work we’ve put in. It’s brilliant. It’s a lovely feeling.
“That’s up there with the best of them. We’ve suffered a lot in the last couple of years. It’s definitely up there.”
Naomh Conaill twice opened up a three-point advantage against Gaoth Dobhair, who were reduced to 14 men at half-time when Eamon McGee was sent off. Later, Odhrán McFadden-Ferry was also sent off.
With a minute of normal time to go, Eamonn Collum drew Gaoth Dobhair level, but O’Malley kicked the late winner.
Regan said: “They dug in. That’s what those boys are made of and they’ve showed that this ten or 15 years. They put their bodies on the line.
“We got the breaks in the end up.”
