The competition over the Halloween Bank Holiday weekend was the Aileen Hallinan Memorial in aid of the Donegal Hospice and there was a huge turnout of members and visitors for this popular competition.
With the weather turning colder and the course set to its testing best, teams struggled to get the better of things and scoring was lower than usual with 51pts taking the top prize.
We had a three-way tie on top of the leaderboard fighting it out for just two prizes but it was the team of Fiachra O’Flaherty (6) Mark Monaghan (11) Kevin McColgan (13) & Oisin O’Flaherty (13) who prevailed with their magnificent 10 birdie haul and superior back 9 holes.
The just pipped by the narrowest of margin (on a countback) the team of Carlo McLaughlin (15) Brendan Callaghan (15) Eamonn Doherty (18) & Kevin Monaghan (26) who had to settle for 2nd place.
A wee mention to the unlucky team of Shane Devlin, Jonny Doherty, Paddy Fletcher and Darren McFadden who also returned 51pts but just missed out on prize.
Winter League
The Winter League returns this coming weekend after a short break over the Bank Holiday Weekend. We will recommence with week 5 which is the Better Ball format.
We are now into the nitty-gritty stages as teams try are trying to drop their worst score over the next 2 weekends and make that all-important jump up the leaderboard to qualify for the Winter League matchplay stages. Just 2 weekends to go.
