A Donegal man will be putting his best foot forward in the Dublin marathon this weekend in memory of his late brother.
Magheraroarty native Éamonn McGinley will have this brother Jimmy in his heart every step of the 42km race this Sunday.
Jimmy passed away in February this year from a brain tumour.
As a thank you for the care that Jimmy received during his illness, his brother Eamonn decided to set himself a marathon challenge in aid of the Irish Cancer Society and Donegal Hospice.
Eamonn has launched a successful GoFundMe appeal in the lead up to the marathon, which has already raised over €2,000.
He said: “I am trying to raise funds for Irish Cancer Society and Donegal Hospice who do amazing work in helping families care for their loved ones at home.
“Unfortunately we only see the wonderful work these organisations do when our loved ones are ill and we have to avail of their services. The night nurses who cared for Jimmy showed such kindness, compassion and dedication both to Jimmy and our family.
“We would like to show our appreciation by raising much needed funds especially for the palliative care night nurse service.”
