Donegal County Council have completed an audit of disabled parking spaces in Letterkenny.
A report will be published on the findings.
It follows a motion by Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh into the use of disabled parking spaces around the Cathedral Town.
Cllr Kavanagh welcomed the response from Donegal County council.
The audit follows a previous motion from councillor Kavanagh asking that the council undertake such an audit and ensure that all disabled parking places were fit for purpose and being properly used.
Speaking after the meeting Councillor Kavanagh said: “I originally put the motion to council because I am aware that not all disabled parking places are fit for purpose, some are poorly positioned so that they are not usable, some have no dropped kerbs beside them which also renders them unusable for many disabled drivers, there is also an ongoing problem with able-bodied drivers parking illegally in designated disabled parking places.
“At last Tuesday’s meeting I asked for an update on my previous motion and I welcome the fact that the council have now completed their audit and I look forward to seeing their report and then putting a programme in place to address the issues identified, and I hope this process can commence soon.”
