AS HE picked through the remnants of a gut-wrenching loss to Cloughaneely last night, Naomh Colmcille boss Joe Donaghy expressed pride in his men.
Naomh Colmcille rattled Cloughaneely with first-half goals by PJ McBrearty and Michael Lynch giving the Division 3 outfit the edge.
Right at the end, four minutes into added time, Donegal midfielder Jason McGee won the quarter-final for Cloughaneely.
“It was one of the only times they led in the game,” Donaghy sighed as he spoke to Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub afterwards.
“Our game plan was working well. We thought we had recognised a couple of weakness. We obviously knew their strengths. We tried to play to our’s and to avoid theirs.”
It is only a couple of months since Naomh Colmcille were unable to fulfil a League game away to Malin. However, Donaghy has done a sterling job in regrouping to preserve their status in Division 3 and their Championship campaign has offered hope.
He added: “We could have had the game to bed but, listen, Cloughaneely are playing at a very high standard all year. They just showed that they’re at that level. Our boys are badly disappointed, but hopefully it will stand to them.”
