DANNY O’DONNELL was delighted to see Milford answer their critics by reaching the club’s first ever Donegal SFC quarter-final.
Milford came out on the right side of a thrilling clash with Glenfin yesterday, the Moyle View men winning 1-17 to 3-8.
For the first time, and with a game to spare, Milford have booked a place in the last eight.
“It’s a massive result for the club,” O’Donnell told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“A lot of people write Milford off all the time. People have been saying: ‘They’re punching above their weight, relegated from Division One and not good enough’.
“We know what they’re capable of. We targeted a quarter-final. I’m absolutely delighted for the club. It’s a great day for them.”
Glenfin pushed them all the way with second-half goals by Stephen Carr, Gerard Ward and Stephen Carr giving them a real chance, but Milford had enough about them to take a win.
O’Donnell said: “One thing we asked them was to keep the focus. The goals, it wasn’t as if they cut us open; one was a penalty and the other was a fumbled, wet ball.
“The excitement was unreal in the second half. We knew that Glenfin wouldn’t lie down.
“Credit to our boys, every time Glenfin got back level, we went up and responded well. The way they responded was really encouraging.”
