GAOTH DOBHAIR manager Mervyn O’Donnell insists that his side have to ‘step it up big time’ if they’re to retain Dr Maguire.
“The goal came at the right time and we really needed it,” O’Donnell told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“We were choked. They had their fingers on our neck and we just couldn’t get away.
“There is a lot for us to work on. If we want to win a Championship, we have to step it up big time.”
Last year, a one-point win over St Eunan’s in Letterkenny paved the way for a successful assault on the Donegal Championship and Gaoth Dobhair went on to win Ulster. This evening, St Eunan’s stood much taller and tougher.
O’Donnell admitted: “We didn’t play as well as we could. That was down to St Eunan’s having their homework done and not allowing us to play.
“Scoring opportunities were at a minimum. It probably wasn’t a great spectacle, but it was high-quality football.”
