Part of the Shore Road in Ramelton has collapsed overnight leading to serious fears in the area that the entire wall could give way.
A gaping hole has been left in the structure following high tides overnight.
Donegal County Council have attended the scene and are due back in the area shortly.
And with further high tides forecast tonight there are genuine fears that further parts of the wall and the pavement and roads nearby will also be damaged.
The collapsed wall is opposite an apartment block which contains dozens of residents.
There are now fears the erosion may impinge onto the road outside.
Local county councillor Ian McGarvey has raised the issue of erosion in the area at council level for a number of years.
Editor of the Tirconail Tribune, John McAteer said there are now serious concerns for passing motorists and residents in the area.
“This is a very serious issue and the entire area needs to be examined in case there is further erosion.
“There are further high tides due and the entire wall could give way.
“The council has put cones down but much more action needs to be taken to ensure the safety of motorists and local residents,” he said.
