DONEGAL CYCLIST Mitchell McLaughlin has launched an appeal to assist in funding to realise his dream of becoming a professional cyclist.
McLaughlin has agreed to ride with the Spanish-based Zappi team in 2020, but is €3,000 short of the funding he requires to take up the offer.
The Drumkeen man is currently a member of the Four Masters Cycling Club and he will hope to gain selection for the Under-23 Giro D’Italia next year, among other big races in Europe.
McLaughlin has launched a Go Fund Me page to aid in achieving his target.
“I am 21-year-old cyclist from Drumkeen, Co Donegal, who one day wants to represent Ireland on the world stage,” he says by way of an introduction.
“I’ve just been offered a stepping stone to that goal by being offered a place on the Zappi team and I will be racing on their Under 23 team across Europe next year – including the U23 Giro d’Italia.
“I have raised funding and sponsorship but I am still €5,000 short of the funding I need to realise my dream of cycling with an excellent Zappi team based in Spain.
“I would be so grateful for any donation, no matter how small. And hopefully one day you’ll see me on TV winning a major event – maybe even the Tour de France – and you can say you helped me get there.”
