Glenfin 1-12 V 1-12 Naomh Columba Aaron Doherty’s point from a close-in free with the last kick of the game secured a comeback draw for the visitors Naomh Columba and Division Two football for both themselves and opponents Glenfin for next season. When Aaron McGlynn pointed from play in the 51st minute to put Glenfin into a seven point lead 1-12 to 0-08 it looked the Glen men , with two tough fixtures against promotion chasing teams still to come , would have to wait a little longer to ensure survival , but they produced an excellent final fifteen minutes including injury-time to snatch a draw and safety. Glenfin could have had a goal in the first minute when Karl McGlynn got in behind the defence but player-manager Pauric O Donnell produced a super save to deny him. The teams shared six points equally in the opening 12 minutes , Gerard Ward, Jason Morrow and Ciaran Brady for Glenfin , Christopher Byrne , Declan McGuire and a super effort from a long range free by Paddy Byrne for Glen. Glenfin then hit three in a row , Brady and Ward getting their second scores and Aaron McGlynn adding a beauty from 35 yards, 0-06 to 0-03 after 20 minutes. Paddy Byrne’s 45 and Aaron Doherty’s free narrowed the gap to one but Glenfin ended the half strongly with a Gerard Ward free and then in injury-time Ciaran Brady flicked the ball to the net after an excellent Glenfin move which had Frank McGlynn at the heart of it and a Daniel McGylnn’s pass setting Brady up to score , 1-07 to 0-05 at half-time. Charlie Collins reports from Pairc Taobhoige . The opening period of the second-half was again a case of the teams exchanging points. Two from Gerard Ward and one each from Morrow and Odhran McGlynn got Glenfin up to 1-11 , while Aaron Doherty , Ryan Gillespie and Lanty Molloy replied for Naomh Columba but they now trailed by six points in the 50th minute. Glenfin were reduced to 14 men when Odhran McGlynn picked-up a second yellow card but Aaron McGlynn pointed to put them seven points and seemingly in control . However within a minute they were right back in the game , Doherty pointed a free and then Christopher Byrne finished off a great move by blasting to the net and 14 man Glenfin’s lead was only three points. Ronan Gillespie who had been replaced earlier but had come back on again pointed , Paddy Byrne converted yet another long range free and in the 64th minute after they had worked the ball the length of the field and earned a free Aaron Doherty tapped it over to bring the teams level at 1-12 each and Referee Seamus McGonigle blew the final whistle. Both teams moved onto 15 points and will play Division Two football next year , it also means Termon need one point from their final two games to totally secure their status in Division Two but given that they have fourteen points on the table against only ten for Four Masters , are level on head to head, and have a better scoring difference of plus 48 , I think it’ safe to say that the Donegal Town men will be playing Division Three football next season.
