This little terrier dog will “paws’ for thought the next time he plans to chase a kitten into the engine of a car.
Dooey the cross-terrier thought he would give the kitten a run for its money when he spotted it outside the family home in Letterkenny.
A chase ensued but although the fluffy kitten managed to escape, Dooey got his paw caught in the engine of the family car.
What followed was a rescue operation which lasted three hours and involved more than half a dozen people.
Local animal rescue volunteer Adrienne McGlinchey was called about the trapped family dog and dashed to the scene.
Not able to free the dog, Adrienne summoned the help of local kitchen company owner Joe O’Donnell who was working nearby at College Farm Road.
Finally, after hours of working together before eventually taking off the wheel of the car, Dooey (named after the Donegal beach!) was freed.
Owner Patricia McGinley said Dooey has been grounded but is still keen to chase cats outside the family home.
“It was such an ordeal. The kitten managed to escape but Dooey wasn’t so lucky.
“It took us almost three hours to get him out and he was a little worse-for-wear. His poor little paw got caught but he’s fine now.
“He still hasn’t learned his lesson and he’s waiting at the front door to get out into the car engine again.
“But he’s grounded. We just can’t ground him forever. We’re just hoping he forgets it and doesn’t go exploring up into the car engine again,” she laughed.
