Plans to open an amusement arcade on Letterkenny’s Main Street have been met with opposition by a local county councillor.
The plans for the building which is occupied by financial group McCambridge Duffy have been lodged with Donegal County Council.
The building is between McGinley’s Bar and Clarke’s Newsagent.
A decision on a change of use for the building is due to be made by the council on October 3rd.
However, local county councillor Gerry McMonagle, says he is completely against such an arcade being set up.
“This is the fear we had when there was a vote on our gaming laws. We are going to have a lot more applications like this.
“I would like to know a little more about what kind of arcade this is but I cannot see if being an amusement arcade for children.
“If this is a building with poker machines and slot machines then I am completely against it.
“There are already enough betting shops on Letterkenny’s Main Street without another such building popping up.
“We have all seen the misery which gambling addictions bring. This is not what we want for Letterkenny or anywhere in Donegal for that matter,” he said.
