BRENDAN BOYCE took 17 seconds off the Ulster record for the men’s 3,000m walk in Cork tonight.
Boyce, competing at the Cork City Sports at CIT, finished third in the event in 11 minutes and 17.84 seconds.
The time was 17 seconds faster than the previous Ulster, Donegal and Finn Valley AC records.
Boyce, who has already qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, will line up at next month’s World Championships in Doha.
Boyce’s Finn Valley AC colleague Sommer Lecky was outside the medals in the women’s high jump with the Castlederg teenager jumping a best of 1.80 metres.
Meanwhile, there were third-placed finishes for Daniella Jansen (Finn Valley AC) and Gareth Crawford (Lifford-Strabane AC) at the Manchester International.
Jansen was third in the women’s 400m in 58.91 seconds. Nayanna Dubarry-Gay won in 55.48 seconds with Hannah Foster second in 56.00 seconds.
Kelly McGrory of Tir Chonaill AC was seventh in the women’s 400m hurdles, finishing in 61.39 seconds. Jansen and McGrory were on the women’s 4x400m team which finished fourth in a loaded race.

Crawford was third in the men’s javelin, reaching out to 63.94m. Last month, Crawford had set a new Donegal record of 66.01m on his way to silver at the National Senior Championships.
