A 93-year old pensioner is recovering after raiders broke into her home and ransacked it – for the THIRD time.
Frail Margaret Rabbett was in the bathroom of her Co Donegal home yesterday morning (Sun) at 10am.
The raiders ransacked Margaret’s home and made away with her pension money.
Margaret was unhurt but left shaken after she heard the pair going through her home.
The pair, aged between 18 and 25, wrecked Margaret’s home as they rifled it for cash and left her religious statues strewn around her house at Magherabeg, Inch on the Inishowen Peninsula.
Margaret’s niece Ann told Donegal Daily that this is the latest break-in to her aunt’s house.
She said “This is the third time that Margaret has been burgled and she is very upset because she just keeps thinking on what might have happened if she disturbed them.
“Margaret was in the toilet and it was only when she made noise as she came out of the toilet that these boys ran out of the house.
“They made no mess when they were breaking into the house. It was perfect and they could get a job as window fitters they were that good.
“They left a mess behind them though and knew exactly what they were looking for. They got away with a small amount of cash,” said Ann.
Margaret, who lives alone and never married, has been the victim of raiders twice before.
Ann said she has great neighbours and that the burglars must have thought she was at mass on a Sunday morning when they broke in.
“These are career criminals but it is time we put an end to their careers. This is happening all across rural Ireland and these boys need to be put in bot camp and made to work.
“Prison is no good for them because they have televisions, three meals a day and don’t have to work. I’d like to go in there for a couple of weeks myself to get a rest from work,” said Ann.
Garda forensic experts have carried out a full sweep of Margaret’s home in an effort to get clues to the identity of the raiders.
However, the pair wore gloves and also arrived with a toolbox to gain entry through a back window of Margaret’s home.
However, it is understood that there have been sightings of the gang.
The two are described as being around 6ft tall and were wearing checked shirts and had dark hair.
One of the raiders was also wearing tan coloured tracksuit bottoms.
Gardai are trying to identify if a white van seen parked nearby at Inch Wildlife Reserve is connected to the heartless raid.
Gardai are looking through CCTV footage while they are also appealing for anybody with dashcam footage in the area to come forward.
