FINN HARPS manager Ollie Horgan admits the signing of an American trialist who has impressed on a brief period at the club is now unlikely to happen.
The American striker – pictured by Claire McCahill – scored against Linfield in a 2-1 friendly win at Windsor Park on Saturday.
The striker, listed on the Harps team-sheet as Immanuel Doyle, scored an equaliser for Harps before Liam Walsh netted the winner.
However, Horgan’s hopes of signing the trialist have hit a snag.
“We’d like to sign him, but we have ran into a few difficulties with his nationality and trying to get clearance,” the Harps manager explained.
“There is no point in me explaining who he is. He is an American citizen with an American passport and that brings with it huge difficulties.
“There was a bit lost in conversation where I was of the impression that he had a European passport, but his father has a European passport. He hasn’t got that as of yet so it’s unlikely to progress.
“He has something in the top third that we don’t have. While we’re crying out to get something to add to what we have up there and we feel that he’s good enough, but we have ran into a difficulty.”
Harps used the game in Belfast to give game time to new signing Joshua Smith, who could now feature against Bohemians tonight in Ballybofey.
Horgan said: “That will take him on leaps and bounds and he’ll certainly be in contention for Friday night.”
