FINN HARPS have appealed for information after what they call ‘pointless vandalism’ at Finn Park on Monday night.
Harps officials arrived at the ground on Tuesday morning to find that it had been broken into overnight.
Finn Park is set to host a north west derby between Harps and Derry City on Friday night.
Vandals gained entry to the ground and an area of the River End half of the pitch was burned after the culprits burst a fire hydrant from its container.
“They made an effort yo go on and spray it on the pitch,” a Harps spokesperson said.
“They also managed to get very close to opening the club shop door, where they could of destroyed or stole all in there.
“There was a big effort to get it right for Friday night, but it should recover.”
A statement from the club said: “Finn Harps FC were disappointed to find that Finn Park had been broken into on Monday night with some damage to the pitch and attempts made to gain forced entry into club shop.
“While ongoing treatment will ensure playing surface will be fixed for Friday night’s derby with Derry City, it is extremely frustrating for ground staff and Harps volunteers to deal with pointless vandalism on an hugely busy week for everyone at the club.
“The matter has been reported to the Gardaí who are asking the public to forward any information which may help with their inquiries. Please contact Ballybofey Garda Station on 074 9137740 if you can help.”
