Two late points from Fergal McGovern and Conor Love for Fermanagh were enough to oust Donegal from the Ulster U-20 Championship at Brewster Park in Enniskillen this evening.
Fermanagh 0-14 Donegal 0-12
It means the end of the road for the side managed by Gary McDaid against the home side who lost their best player Ultan Kelm to injury at the start of the second half.
It was 0-12 to 0-12 before the late late show from the Erne County.
Eoin Beacom, Kelm, Callum Jones and Cameron McBride points helped Fermanagh into a 0-4 to 0-3 lead by the 20th minute. Donegal were doing well to be just the one down, with Shane McDevitt and Paddy Dolan scoring.
Donegal managed to get in front at 0-6 to 0-5 with Ryan Cunningham from Killybegs Conor O’Donnell from St Eunan’s popping over. The home team, though, edged ahead by half-time with Love and Darragh McGurn scoring to lead by 0-7 to 0-6 at the break.
Jones put Fermanagh two up at the start of the second half, but without senior star Kelm and with Donegal getting back on terms through both Conor O’Donnells – St Eunan’s and Carndonagh – it looked as though victory would be going to the away side, who were now level at 0-8 to 0-8.
Fermanagh steadied and edged into a two-point 0-11 to 0-9 lead with Jones and McGurn raising white flags. Dara McBrien then put Fermanagh three up and looking good, only for Donegal to make it 0-12 apiece with the two O’Donnells scoring before Dolan.
