IRISH athletes have landed in Minsk ahead of the second European Games, which gets underway today.
Raphoe badminton player and thee-time Olympian Chloe Magee – who competes in Minsk alongside three other members of her family – will be the Irish flag-bearer for tonight’s opening ceremony. Magee will carry the tricolour at the Dinamo Stadium.
Sibling Chloe Magee, Sam Magee and Joshua Magee will compete with their niece Rachael Darragh at the Games.
Tir Chonaill AC’s Kelly McGrory has travelled as part of the Irish athletics team, with Finn Valley AC man Dermot McGranaghan a coach with the Irish squad.
Athletics gets underway on Sunday with badminton commencing on Monday.
The European Games in Minsk will see over 4000 athletes from 50 countries compete across 200 events. Irish athletes will be competing in five of the eight sports that are part of the Tokyo 2020 Qualification process; archery, athletics, badminton, cycling road, judo and shooting.
