A Letterkenny man has successfully made it through boot camp to become an Escort at this year’s Rose of Tralee International Festival.
Ciaran Cannon is one of 35 lucky gents to be chosen to accompany the Rose contestants this August.
The 26-year-old primary school teacher is already well-prepared for the tasks in store, having completed the training boot camp in Kerry last weekend.

From playing with puppies, and fireman training, cooking, canoeing and climbing Ireland’s highest mountain Carrauntoohil, the escorts had a packed programme of tasks.
Looking back on the experience, Ciaran said: “With just ourselves, the fantastic support of the escorts team, local attractions, the generosity of the Kerry people and good old fashioned team work, it is sure that the bootcamp of 2019 will go down in history as one of the most successful camps ever.”
Donegal will be well-represented in the festival Dome for the 60th annual festival this August. Donegal Town woman Chloe Kennedy was selected at this year’s Donegal Rose and will appear on stage for a televised interview.
The eager escorts have a bit of work to do for the honour of the role. Thay have to pay a €1,500 fee, which means that Ciaran is calling for sponsors to support his subscription to the festival.
Ciaran, who is teaching in Dublin and lives in Portlaoise, has thanked his current sponsors AJ Flynn Menswear on Main Street Portlaoise and Arena7 in Letterkenny.
He added: “With €1,500 to raise to the festival I would like to thank both businesses for their contributions to date. However the door is not closed and any business or person who would like to get involved in sponsoring me and promoting their services to the festival are all welcome.”
