The staff and pupils of Scoil Mhuire gan Smál have welcomed the installation of a defibrillator in the school building.
In keeping with best practice, the Letterkenny national school recently acquired the emergency medical device for the school community.
A defibrillator can be used in the event of a cardiac arrest, by a trained individual, to deliver a potentially life-saving shock to the heart to allow it to resume its normal rhythm.
“The funds to provide this valuable piece of equipment were sponsored by the Board of Management, to whom we are very grateful,” said teacher Mrs Margaret Rowland.
Five teachers on the staff are certified in the use of this defibrillator should the need ever arise.
Scoil Mhuire gan Smál is a health promoting school and has an Active Flag. Health and wellbeing is of paramount importance within the school community.
