Man with 110 previous convictions jailed again for petrol station drive-off

June 5, 2019

A man with 110 previous convictions has been jailed for three months after driving off from a petrol station without paying for €82 of fuel.

Gardai spotted Thomas McDonagh after he spun the wheels of his red Hyundai Tucson and he left the Applegreen Filling Station and drove across four lanes of roadway in Letterkenny on May 4th, 2018.

McDonagh’s solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher said his client was a 39-year-old father of three who had battled drug and drink addictions for many years.

The court also heard that McDonagh, with an address at Castlerea Prison, had pleaded guilty to public order charges at Letterkenny University Hospital and at Lower Main street in Letterkenny.

Judge Paul Kelly imposed fines totalling €300 and also jailed McDonagh for three months on the theft charge.

Another charge against McDonagh was put back until June 17th to allow the Director of Public Prosecutions to review the charge.
