Rena Donaghey has vowed that she will ‘work harder than ever’ as she prepares for another five-years on the Donegal County Council as she was elected for the sixth time on the first count for south Inishowen in Carndonagh.
The Fianna Fáil candidate collected 1,436 on the first count, 24 votes over the required quota.
“I am absolutely delighted, this is my sixth election, I got a fantastic vote,” Donaghey told Donegal Daily.
“The boundaries did affect me, I lost 305 votes but I managed to get those back and then some, so I am very, very happy.
“I would like to place on record all those that helped me with this election, including my family,” she added.
“And to my voters, thank you for placing your trust in me for another term and to those who didn’t vote for me, I will work hard for you too.
“People have said to me on the doors that they would give me their number one vote because they thought I was a hard worker, they told me that on a number of occasions.
“My door is opened from seven in the morning to twelve at night, I work seven days a week and I can put my hand on my heart and say I do my best for everybody and I want to thank them again for voting for me.”
