Ciaran Brogan has topped the poll for Letterkenny in the local elections 2019.
The Fianna Fáil man returns to Lifford to continue his 20-year-long political career.
The Letterkenny business owner took 1,570 of the first preference votes in the electoral area. The quota is set at 1464.
Speaking to Donegal Daily, Brogan said he was very proud to be elected on the first count:
“It’s down to the team. I’m very lucky from the start. It’s hard to believe it’s 20 years since I first stood in an election. A lot of things has changed.
“It was a tough campaign with people who I’m friendly with in Rally circles, Manus Kelly, Kevin Bradley. You had to try to keep your team solid and they did that.
“Like a football match people were saying you are the favourite and you are safe but we had to knock that on the head and tell people we need every vote.”
He paid tribute to all his fellow candidates as the Letterkenny battle continues: “Anybody who goes forward for election deserves a lot of credit for that.”
