This year’s local election has seen some candidates going to great lengths to gain attention and win votes.
But one candidate has abandoned all posters for a non-traditional canvas – through music.

Independent Cllr Seamus Maguire was one of Donegal’s newest councillors to take his seat his year after being co-opted by John Campbell. And he’s taking a fresh approach to his campaign for re-election to the Donegal Municipal District.
The ‘Poster Free’ candidate takes musical inspiration from George Ezra’s Shotgun song to put his own twist on the words and tell the electorate how he’ll ‘fix the roads’ if you make him Number One.
The Stranorlar teacher is even joined by political friends Thomas Pringle TD and John Campbell for some carpool karaoke – council style!
Maguire may be setting a precedent for other candidates to take creative steps for votes. With just a week to go until the public go to the polls, Donegal’s council hopefuls will have to act fast.
