A team of inspirational youngsters have set out to share an important message of friendship with a new song and video released today.
#Friends by the Wild Atlantic Wains is a country song recorded locally by Blue Ribbon Arts.
The song centres on the value of real friendship and self-acceptance in the world of social media. The idea grew from discussions with local schoolchildren as young as eight, who said they had issues with being happy with themselves in a world where everyone wants to be ‘trending’.
The uplifting #Friends song focuses on acceptance and resilience.
Starring 9-year-old pals Caela Carr and Ethan Barron, the song highlights the positive message the children want to spread as far and wide as possible, ‘I’m a boy, I’m a girl, in an everchanging world, Keep it real, no pretence, hashtag friends’.

Their music video was officially launched in Tropical World Letterkenny and on YouTube on Monday. Children aged 8-10yrs attended from two classes from Drumoghill NS and Scoil Mhuire Ramelton, who participated in the project, as well as guests from Little Angels Special School.
The premiere was watched by schools across the county, who downed tools and joined in the countdown amid great excitement and anticipation of the video, which did not disappoint.
As a result of the issues explored in the #Friends project, the Donegal Education Centre is currently working with Blue Ribbon Arts founder Brí Carr on plans to develop and deliver a new positive friendship and resilience programme for schools and youth groups. The programme is to be piloted in Donegal this coming school year, with the song #Friends at its core.
A recording ‘as Gaeilge’ #Cairde is also on the way in plenty of time for Seachtain Na Gaeilge 2020.
Don’t miss the clever creation of the hashtag # sign in the video – as Ethan and Caela combine two peace signs to make a positive trend!
