MICKEY MCCANN says his Donegal showed yesterday that they can live in the Christy Ring Cup.
Donegal led at half-time, but a brace of goals from Hughes gave Wicklow the advantage.
“Before we knew it, we were two goals down,” McCann said afterwards.
“We got back into It, but the fourth goal was a sucker-punch. We hurled as well as Wicklow. They were just a wee bit more clinical.
“It’s a high-tier competition and Wicklow are a good side.
“We just switched off at the start of the second half and they got in for a couple of goals.
“We brought it back again, but we missed a few frees. We could have got a draw out of the game.”
Lee Henderson led the way for Donegal as they took charge of the contest from the off.
McCann said: “We were well set up to counteract Wicklow. They probably did come a wee bit complacent and that was our chance to get six or seven up. We did that, but Wicklow came out flying and punished us in the second half.”
Donegal are down ten players from their 2018 panel at the moment for varying reasons, but McCann believes his side are capable of retaining their Christy Ring slot.
