Young bakers from across the county felt the heat of the kitchen as they took part in the first ever Donegal Schools Bake Off.
Loreto Milford hosted the competition on Thursday 2nd May, with students from seven other Donegal post-primary schools in attendance.
Competition was high as students were challenged to bake and decorate a cake with the theme “The Wild Atlantic Way”.
Celebrity chef Gary O’Hanlon from Ramelton had the task of judging the sweet creations.
M.C Jimmy Stafford was on hand to interview Chef Gary before he revealed the winners:
Senior winner was Aisling Davis, from Finn Valley College with teacher Claire McGranaghan.
Junior winner was Sophie Gallagher, from Loreto Community School with teacher Ailsing Mills.
In the senior category Bethany Smyth, from Raphoe Royal & Prior came second (teacher Helen Patton) and Roíse Robinson, from Loreto Milford came third.
In the Junior category Niamh Harkin, from Scoil Mhuire Buncrana came second (teacher Linda Dolan) and Tara Stewart, from Royal & Prior came third.
All other participants and their teachers were congratulated for making it to the final, including Róisn McLaughlin & Julia Tytko from St. Columba’s College, Stranorlar (teacher Amanda Timony) ; Hannah Lynch from Carndonagh Community School (teacher Aisling Gilroy); Aoife Doherty from Crana College (teacher Siobhan McCullagh); Katie Nic a’Bhaird & Elaine Nic Pháidín from Pobalscoil Ghaoth Dobhair (teacher Michelle Ferguson)
The competition will run again next year with another Donegal school taking the role of hosting school.
