Gary Duffy says the Donegal minors will be all the better for their win over Armagh this evening.
A brace of goals by Shane Monaghan and nine points from Johnny McGroddy were key as Donegal defeated Armagh 2-18 to 2-12 in Ballybofey.
“It’s good for them to drive it forward,” Duffy told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub after the win.
“Young lads need victories like that. We were put on the rocks at times, but we really lifted our game in the last 15 minutes.
“Our necks were on the line and we knew we needed a big performance. They responded.”
Donegal were behind until Monaghan rescued the night with a goal just after his introduction and the Naomh Colmcille man added a second in added time.
Duffy said: “He was put in to get goals. Shane is a wee poacher and he’ll get you goals. He’s like his uncle Brendan in that regard. We got our timing right. The first goal came at a crucial time and gave us a platform to kick on.”
And Duffy believes that Downings ace McGroddy can become a star for the future.
He said: “Johnny is the real deal. He is a great footballer with a great attitude. He is everything you want in a footballer. He’ll be a bright player for Donegal in the future.”
