Team Ireland swimmer Anna Hennessy has secured her place in the Down Syndrome Open European Championships in Sardinia this September.
The Letterkenny athlete had another wave of success this month at the European Open Down Syndrome Swimming Competition in Southampton.
Anna (19) scooped three medals at The Quays – winning Silver in the 25m Butterfly, Bronze in the 50m Freestyle and Bronze in the 100m Freestyle.
She also set personal bests in each of the six events she took part in, knocking 2 seconds off her 50m Freestyle and 3 seconds off her 50m Butterfly.
As a result, Anna gained her qualifying times for the 5th Open European Swimming DSISO Championships in Italy.
The world class event, taking place from 15-22 September, is one of the most important international swimming competitions of the year. Up to 17 swimmers have qualified for Team Ireland.
Looking ahead to the competition, Anna told Donegal Daily/ Donegal Sport Hub: “I love swimming. I would like to be involved in swimming in the future. I couldn’t be happier with all my recent events and I’m looking forward to the big event in Italy. I’m going to crush it.”
Anna, who is also studying for her Leaving Cert, has returned to training 3-4 days per week after a short Easter break. She took part in the Letterkenny 24/7 Try a Tri on Sunday alongside her sisters, Eavan and Ríona.
