Jim McGuinness secured his first win as manager of Charlotte Independence last night.
After taking just one point from their opening five games under the Glenties man’s stewardship, Charlotte overcame Bethlehem Steel 2-1.
After spells at Celtic and Beijing Sinobo Guoan as a coach, McGuinness – Donegal’s 2012 All-Ireland winning manager – was appointed manager of USL Championship side Charlotte.
And after a difficult start, they’re off and running.
“We’re relived to get the result,” McGuinness said.
“There are no short cuts. You have to work for everything. We had to go and work for it. No-one will offer you points. You have to work for them and fight for them. They did that and got their rewards.
