The Little Angels School in Letterkenny has moved a step closer to getting a new building.
Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher has raised the issue of the provision of a new school building for the Little Angels School in Letterkenny.
The Fianna Fail Deputy said he has raised this matter on a number of occasions with the Minister and directly with the Department of Education.
He said “Little Angels School in Letterkenny preform massive work on an ongoing basis, they currently urgently require a new school building and this is a matter which I have highlighted on numerous occasions in the Dáil added Pat the Cope.
“In my question to the Minister this week regarding the Little Angels School, the Department replied and I quote: “It is anticipated that this project will shortly be authorised to commence the pre-qualification process to create a shortlist of contractors to which the project will be tendered.”
Deputy Gallagher said he welcomes the confirmation that contractors are to be sought, and that pre-qualification and short-listing of contractors is to be sanctioned, this will then allow the school to be tendered for and a contractor appointed for the project.
He added “I will again be calling on the Department to proceed without any delay in order to deliver this new school building in a timely manner in order that the pupils and staff of Little Angels can directly benefit from a new school building.”
Copy of Dáil reply issued to Pat the Cope.
QUESTION
To ask the Minister for Education and Skills his plans for a school (details supplied); the timeframe for the delivery of the project; when he plans to sanction approval for same; and if he will make a statement on the matter. (Details Supplied) the School of the Little Angels , Letterkenny, Co Donegal
REPLY
The major building project for the school referred to by the deputy is at an advanced stage of architectural planning, Stage 2b (Detailed Design). The Stage 2(b) submission has been reviewed by my Department and comments have issued to the school and its Design Team.
The Design Team is currently working on a submission to my Department outlining the steps required to achieve compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations 2017 (NZEB “Near Zero Energy Building”). This is a new requirement arising from the introduction of Part L (Conservation of Fuel and Energy) of the Building Regulations to ensure compliance with the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).
It is anticipated that this project will shortly be authorised to commence the pre-qualification process to create a shortlist of contractors to which the project will be tendered.
