If you felt a little tremor overnight then you won’t be surprised to hear that Donegal was struck by a 2.4 magnitude earthquake last night.
The quake happened off Donegal Bay – between Slieve League and Mullaghmore in Co Sligo, just before 11pm.
The Irish National Seismic Network say the event was felt by people in Kilcar and more in Ardara and Ballyshannon say they also felt tremors.
The INSN said: “Events of this nature are not uncommon in the region.”
They have appealed for anyone who experienced the earthquake to get in touch.
A minor earthquake also rocked Donegal back in August 2017.
The quake, which measured 1.5 on the Richter scale, was felt by hundreds of people in and around the Milford and Kilmacrennan areas on August 2, 2017.
It is understood the centre of the quake occurred off the Fanad Peninsula but could be felt for several miles inland.
