Paul Hegarty praised a much-changed Finn Harps side after a morale-boosting extra-time win over Sligo Rovers last night.
An extra-time strike by debut boy Stephen Doherty sealed Harps’ passage to the next round of the EA Sports Cup.
Harps made seven changes to their team, but deservedly came out on top.
“A lot of the young boys and others who hadn’t got a game came in,” Hegarty told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“As we told them: ‘You have to stake a claim to play against Derry’. A lot of them put their names forward.
“Those boys deserved an opportunity. They showed great hunger and desire to win the football match.”
