Spraoi agus Sport in Carndonagh is hosting a support group meeting tonight (Thursday) for parents of children with disability and/or autism.
The informal group is for local parents and guardians to come together to support each other.
They will also be given the opportunity to meet with coordinator Mairéad McLaughlin should they wish to avail of or hear more about the existing services in Spraoi agus Sport for children and young people with a disability and\or autism.
Ms McGettigan explained: “We currently facilitate a youth club for both children and teenagers with a disability and we also provide SNA (special needs assistant) support for these young people to attend any of the activities we offer at no additional cost to the family.
“The aim of this is to provide a service where the young people are partaking in fun and meaningful activities in an inclusive and stimulating environment. This is also providing alternative respite for parents.
“We are currently expanding and developing this service for all. We also plan to develop a new youth space for teenagers that is inclusive. The voice of our parents and young people is crucial in the planning of all of these.
“We will be bringing guest speakers to the parents’ support group from time to time.”
All parents and guardians are welcome to the meeting on Thursday 14th March at 8pm in Unit 9 Spraoi agus Sport Carndonagh. For more info visit www.facebook.com/spraoiagussport
