Three LYIT Fashion students have been shortlisted for this year’s ‘Fashion Oscars’.
The cutting-edge students of LYIT’s new Fashion with Promotion degree are set to display their work on the catwalk of the Irish Fashion Innovation Awards tonight in Galway.
Helen Murray, Amy Devlin and Aimée Magowan are all in the running for the title of Student Designer of the Year.
The awards, which take place on Thursday 14th March, are recognised as a launching pad for Ireland’s most talented designers. The event celebrates up-and-coming design talent and connects promising students with the public and leading industry figures.
Helen, Amy and Aimee are all set to reap the benefits of having their work displayed on the catwalk. With ‘Decadence’ as the main theme, the students have each created stunning works of art and style.
Helen Murray drew inspiration from her hometown of Termon for her luxe look.

Helen describes her entry: “In Irish “An Tearmann” means ‘Sanctuary. I used crisp white linen printed with my own design for the longline jacket which is mixed with a soft blush satin jacket and flowing wide leg trousers that feature a pleated waist detail.”
Amy Devlin from Convoy was inspired by her Scottish roots and Rennie Mackintosh for her ornate design. She has created a sheer hand–embellished dress which has a contemporary twist with leather detailing.
Aimée Magowan’s look screams punk. On her entry, the Derry native said: “I have mixed tartan and printed ‘anarchy’ text with a cape style jacket which is layered over a cap-sleeve high neck top.”
LYIT Fashion Lecturer Sharon Maxwell said that she was extremely proud of the students and was full of praise for their designs and their hard work in preparation for the event.
Just one overall student will be selected by the judging panel on the night. The 2019 Irish Fashion Innovation Awards is sure to be a show-stopping event and a hugely valuable experience for the Letterkenny students.
